Harding Chapel: The Inconvenient Cross

As the semester draws to a close, summer mission trips draw near. As a part of their global sendoff, this message was spoken today in Harding’s chapel–a very powerful message–about the cross. A message, which I believe is good for all to hear:

And he said to all, “If anyone would come after me, let him deny himself and take up his cross daily and follow me” (Luke 9:23).

Thank You, Reba

So, I have a confession to make. I’m a 27-year-old man who lately, tends to watch Reba whenever I’m bored, feeling down, or stressed. Yes, it’s been off the air for over twelve years, yet it’s still a hilarious show that’s also not afraid to talk about some very challenging issues, such as divorce, teen pregnancy, living with mistakes, etc. And a show with a very encouraging theme song. For life happens, and your “roots may be planted in the past,” but you gotta keep going. Stay strong and courageous and just take this life one day at a time. . . . He can get you through anything:

The Sand Dollar Missionary

The Legend of the Sand Dollar

There’s a lovely little legend
that I would like to tell,
of the birth and death of Jesus,
found in this lowly shell.

If you examine closely,
you’ll see that you find here,
four nail holes and a fifth one,
made by a Roman’s spear.

On one side the Easter lily,
its center is the star,
that appeared unto the shepherds
and led them from afar.

The Christmas Poinsettia
etched on the other side,
reminds us of His birthday,
our happy Christmastide.

Now break the center open,
and here you will release,
the five white doves awaiting,
to spread Good Will and Peace.

This simple little symbol,
Christ left for you and me,
to help us spread His Gospel,
through all Eternity.
