Fireworks, nothing but sound and light, yet for centuries they have dazzled mankind. Just last Sunday, I was at a firework display with a group of friends, and as an extremely bright one exploded, hurting my eyes from my pupils Flashlike contracting, a random thought snuck into my mind, and as the display lengthened, it ran rampant:
Christians should be like fireworks. Light in the darkness. Something simple, yet awes. Loud, like a trumpet–courageously declaring the Good News, echoing so that all may hear it, not keeping it to ourselves. We must be bright, yet not too bright, “The Truth must dazzle gradually/ Or every man be blind —”. Each of us having at least one chance to shine. Colorful, each one of us shining in our own way. Fire–pyros for the Lord! “there is in my heart as it were a burning fire shut up in my bones, and I am weary with holding it in, and I cannot.” setting this world ablaze with love like a rogue wildfire. Christians should be like fireworks!
Happy Independence Day! And the next time you see or light a firework, think: “That’s what a Christian should be like.”
