The world is constantly changing. Spring comes, bringing new life and green. Summer arrives, and so does the heat, and the coolness of swimming. Fall announces the new school year, as winter brings sleep and death.
The world is constantly changing . . . but the world is not the only thing that changes, for so do we. You are not the same person who were you year ago. Heck, you’re not the same person who you were yesterday. Life, what we see and experience, is constantly shaping us. Evolving our personality, how we think, and our person. But how we allow life to shape us is completely and utterly up to you. One can see a tragedy as an opportunity to share hope, while another may use it to drown in self-pity.
We cannot stop ourselves from changing, just as a caterpillar cannot stop itself from becoming a butterfly, or a tadpole a frog. It is a part of life. Once we accept change, it will be easier to embrace. No, it’s not easy, but it is the truth.
Some change hurts. The loss of a friend, a separation of a family, but not all is darkness, for are there not weddings? or new people who you meet in your life?
And just because life changes, does not mean that we should forget the past. We should not dwell on it, no, but we shouldn’t forget, for are not memories a part of who you are? If you had no memories, non whatsoever, how would you be able to face the future? How would you know who you are? or prevent yourself from repeating the same mistakes? Memories are a gift. Cherish them.
You are constantly changing. Know that there is nothing that you can do to stop it. Prepare for the future, but don’t forget the past. And ask yourself, “Self, how am I going to let this affect me? Who do I want to become?”
